Ubuntu linux. Or linux mint ,
ubuntuRemix.. It is for netbooks.
If you will download it, it will be .iso file, burn it to image.
Boot by cd or usb.. But you have to transfer it to usb if you want to boot/install via usb

you may also ask for free live cd from www.shipit.ubuntu.com
it is free.. Then install it,, don’t worry about installing it.. No command input,, all graphical, point & click

Mine is an Intel atom processor N450 and it is a 64bit CPU.?

Now my OS is Windows 7 32-Bit. Can I replace it with 64-Bit OS? Will there a be a difference in performance in general?

answers:

No performance difference.

All the talk of a 64 bit operating system is the RAM limitation. 32 bit OS’s have a 4GB RAM limit. Upgrading to a 64 bit Windows will allow you to use as much RAM as you want (theoretically speaking)

However netbooks generally don’t need that much RAM, they’re netbooks, not meant to be high performance machines, and thus their hardware doesn’t support RAM upgrades beyond 4 gigabytes.

So there is no point having a 64 bit OS to lift the RAM limitation, since you are hardware limited in the first place.

Can the Intel Atom N450 run games on Steam (Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, etc.)?

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 with an Intel Atom N450 Processor that my family has had for about 7 months but have never opened. I’m planning to open it now and I was wondering if I can run the Steam Games that I have purchased for the PC will run decently on the Inspiron Mini.
That would largely depend on what you are using it for. This is actually a netbook so it should work well for surfing the net, word processing or watching movies. If you want to work with graphics-intensive software and 3D gaming, this computer might not be up to it.

Is it worth waiting for the Intel Atom N450, or would it be better to get a netbook with Nvidia Ion?

I am looking to get a netbook soon and was reading that there is a new generation of Intel Atom processors coming out. My question is, do you think it is worth the wait to get a netbook with the Atom N450, or better to just go out and get a netbook with the Nvidia Ion graphics platform.
Thank you for your response. I was about to go and buy the 311, but I changed my mind and bought an Acer Aspire 1410 (Core 2 Solo, Intel GMA 4500MHD and 3 GB of RAM)

I own the HP Mini 311 with the Nvidia Ion and I have to say it’s really impressive. Watching videos is seamless and being able to play Guild Wars on this netbook is truly amazing.

Although the Intel Atom N450 processor is the next generation of netbook CPU ( and a great upgrade), you will not see any significant performance improvements. Rather, the benefit of this processor is able to perform at it’s peak level with very little heat or power usage, thus prolonging battery life. Intel claims netbooks running the Atom N450 can run up to 8 hours with normal use and unplugged. This is quite remarkable. However, that factor is not enough for me to wait for buying a netbook.

Good luck
